The Greener Pastures

Humans always look for better alternatives, even animals (Aragorn prefers ice cream over milk and milk over bread). But, haven’t humans pushed a step forward? We seem to find any alternative a better alternative. I’ll give a few examples…

  • A normal man dreams of celebrating his birthday like Amitabh Bacchan and Amitabh Bacchan dreams of celebrating his birthday normally. (The media really needs to slow it down a little… relax, its just his birthday)
  • People who are single want to be in a relationship and people who are in a relationship miss their single life.
  • I take back my words on humans being the pasture hoppers. Even animals do it. Dogs who are out on street want to be loved and cared for, and dogs who have been domesticated want to run free on the streets.

No matter where we are, we find the other alternative to be better.

Is grass always greener on the other side?

Now, I have heard and read many people talk about how you should be “satisfied”. I have also heard people say that never be “satisfied” because it will stagnate your progress. Which one to choose from?

If I am satisfied, I miss the adventure. If I am not, I just want to be satisifed.

Can you see the paradox here?

On my post on Home Schooling I highlighted the benefits of home schooling. A few days ago, while I was going to sleep, I thought how about if I had been home schooled. Would I have the same opinion on it as I have now? Or would I have rambled on how bad it is of parents to not let the child lead a normal life.

Normal, yes, that’s the key here, I guess. When we have a normal life, we want to do something extra ordinary; something which makes us the center of people’s attention. And when we receive that attention, we want to go back, because we feel that attention is clouding our personal life.

If there is no solution to this, what do we do? Hop around aimlessly back and forth the pastures? or flip a coin and choose a pasture and preach the world that this is the greener one?

Well… if you are still reading this, I congratulate you. You either like me a lot or are immune to confusion. But do comment and let me know your take on this.

  • Maybe that’s why religion is so popular. If you had to choose between eternal life or non-existence.. which would you rather believe in?
